  2. Free Health & Wellness Fair

    September 19, 2018, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Christiansburg Recreation Center

    Want to know more about healthy aging? Get screenings for blood pressure, veins, skin, vision and hearing? Get a flu shot? Do all this and more at the AARP-VCOM Health and Wellness Fair at the Christiansburg Recreation Center (1600 N. Franklin Street) on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Join us for this free event from noon to 4 p.m. There will be demonstrations of healthy cooking and talks on healthy brains, healthy joints and aging in place. Several vendors will have information on options for living and volunteering in the New River Valley and can provide financial advice. More than 100 exhibitors will participate. Admission is free, parking is plentiful and the event is handicap accessible.

  5. 8-Mile Bridge Challenge

    September 22, 2018, 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    We'll be walking all 8.3 miles of the Huckleberry Trail between the Blacksburg Public Library and the Christiansburg Recreation Center on Sept. 22, and we hope you'll be there with us! This event is free but participants must register by Monday, Sept. 10. The first 70 registered participants will receive a free T-shirt. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. day-of at the Christiansburg Recreation Center, and all participants must be at the Christiansburg Recreation Center by 8:15 a.m. A shuttle bus will transport participants to the Blacksburg Public Library at 8:30 a.m. The walk takes approximately three hours to complete. Minors (ages 17 and under) must be accompanied by an adult. Proper hydration is the responsibility of participants. No animals are permitted on the shuttle bus.

  7. First Responders Battleship

    September 28, 2018, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    Several canoes will enter - only one will triumph. First responders from our community will battle it out again in our 2nd Annual Responders Battleship at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. In this friendly competition, each team will try to sink the other's canoe. Entry is free, but donations to our local Fire, Rescue and Police departments will be accepted. Come cheer on your favorite team(s)!
