Land Development

Christiansburg welcomes your business! Our staff is available to answer any questions you may have regarding new commercial and residential land development or redevelopment opportunities, or if you simply want to know the process for installing a shed on your residential lot. Our Land Development Handbook provides a wealth of information regarding the permitting process, associated fees, forms, and staff contact information.  Generally, the Town has permit requirements for land development, redevelopment or land use conversion activity disturbing 10,000 square feet or more of land. Also, the Commonwealth maintains regulatory authority of land disturbance activities greater than 1 acre in area.

Christiansburg was designated a Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) effective July 1, 2014. The Town Ordinance has incorporated by reference the Virginia Stormwater Management Regulations that specify standards and specifications for VSMPs, and establishes additional regulations and procedures in Chapter 16 of the Town Code of Ordinances. Christianburg’s zoning code, Chapter 42 of the Town Code of Ordinances, is also an important part of the land development process.
