Coming Soon: MRSWA to Accept Single Stream Recycling

The Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority (MRSWA) will begin accepting single stream recycling on July 1, 2015.

This means that beginning on July 1, residents will no longer have to separate their container and paper recycling at Town recycling drop-off sites.

Please continue to separate corrugated (ridged or grooved) cardboard.

MRSWA will continue accepting dual-stream recycling through June 30, 2015. Residents should continue separating their recycling items as usual until July 1.

Convenient Drop-Off Recycling
While curbside recycling collection is not currently offered by the town, residents still have many convenient places to drop off recyclables for collection at no charge.

The town maintains five recycling drop-off sites. Four of these sites accept newspapers, commingled containers (plastics, glass, aluminum, etc.), and mixed paper. Additional sites accept containers and/or corrugated cardboard. Three recycling drop-off sites also accept corrugated cardboard.

And recycling just got easier! Plastics #1 - #7 are now accepted and you no longer have to separate newspapers from mixed paper.

Please note that plastic caps may be left on bottles and containers. The caps are recycled along with the rest of the container in the plastic pelletizing process.

Recyclables only; all other materials are prohibited.

Recycling Locations (all are accessible 24 hours):
  • Food Lion parking lot at 1530 Roanoke St. - now accepting corrugated cardboard!
  • Home Depot parking lot in Spradlin Farms - now accepting corrugated cardboard!
  • Near the intersection of Betty Dr. NW and Depot St. NW
  • Christiansburg High School at 100 Independence Blvd.
  • Christiansburg Recreation Center at 1600 North Franklin St. (corrugated cardboard only)

Locations can also be found on the Recycling Map.

Trash dumping is prohibited at all recycling drop sites.
