Training
The Christiansburg Police Department sends its recruits to the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy. Some subject areas included in the training are: 
  • Virginia Criminal Law
  • Patrol Techniques
  • Communications
  • Firearms
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Physical fitness

Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or
  • General Education Development Certificate
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in the state of Virginia
  • Possess a high moral standard, a conviction for a felony or serious misdemeanor will result in a disqualification
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and concisely
  • Must be able to communicate with people in a polite, courteous, and firm manner
  • Must be able to work various shifts
  • Computer experience and/or knowledge a must (reports entered into a laptop computer mounted in the patrol unit)
