Montgomery Museum Heritage Day

Date:  August 27, 2016
Time:  10 a.m. -3 p.m.
Location:  Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center
300 Pepper Street in Christiansburg
Additional Information:  Come and experience the past on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center Heritage Day. The popular annual event featuring interesting exhibits of traditional skills and crafts, antique tools, machinery, cars, and engines. Enjoy live music all day and meet re-enactors from Civil War times. Dance and learn traditional games with the representatives of the Smithfield Junior Guild. Bring your children who can build a birdhouse (to keep), paint wooden animals, make animal tracks, enjoy a scavenger hunt in the garden, engage in a leather work and a pottery project and more. Explore the world of insects and other live creatures. There will be vendors, regional artists, lunch for purchase and ice cream.  The museum galleries are open all day.  Contact: 382-5644 for more information.

Eight Mile Bridge Challenge Walk

Date:  Saturday, September 10

Time:  8:15 a.m
Location:  Christiansburg Parks and Recreation and Huckleberry Trail
Fee: FREE-the walk is limited to the first 70 participants, each participant gets a shirt

Additional Information:  Check in begins at 8am on the day of the walk at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.  A shuttle bus departs for the Blacksburg Library at 8:30am.  17 & under must be accompanied by an adult.  No animals are permitted on the shuttle bus.  Registration Form              Course Map

43rd Annual Kiwanis Wilderness Trail Festival

Date:  Saturday, September 17

Time:  9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location:  Downtown Christiansburg
Additional Information:  Crafters, Live bands, Food, Antique & Classic cars, Craft Demonstrations, Open Jam, Community stage, Children’s Area, and Big Green Egg Fest with beer garden.

Huckleberry Hustle 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run "Getting Scary on the Huckleberry"

Date:  Saturday, October 29

Time:  9 a.m.
Location:  Christiansburg Parks and Recreation and Huckleberry Trail
Fee:  $20 if received or postmarked by October 16, 2015(Please send entry and check to Christiansburg High School, C/O Shane Guynn 100 Independence Blvd, Christiansburg, VA 24073) , $25 race day
Additional Information:  The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation is teaming up with the Christiansburg High School to put on this event.  No animals are permitted.  Strollers (baby jogger, etc) need to start at the back.  Race day registration begins at
7:30 a.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center and end promptly at 8:30 a.m.  We have multiple awards for the races including the most creative costume.  Huckleberry Hustle Registration Form          Course Map

Truck or Treat

Date:  Saturday, October 29

Location:  Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Center

Additional Information:  In conjunction with the Huckleberry Hustle 5k “Getting Scary on the Huckleberry” we will be having a Truck or Treat.  Trucks from Christiansburg Fire, Police, Rescue and Public Works will be here for kids and kids at heart to look at and touch.  

Lions Club Holiday Craft Show

Calls from the North Pole

Ages:  8 and younger
Date: December 6 (December 8 if needed)
Time:  Starting at 5:30 p.m.
Additional Information:  Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department has been in contact with the North Pole and everyone including Santa is extremely busy.  Santa has agreed to personally call children 8 years old and younger on December 6th starting at 5:30 p.m.  For Santa to call, you need to fill out a form located either at the Christiansburg Recreation Center and return it by Monday December 5th by 5 p.m.  Santa may need more time to call all the children so if you do not receive a call on December 6th, you will be called on December 8th.  Please keep the phone lines open.  Merry Christmas!!!!
