Internet Crimes Against Children Unit
Forensic examiner with swabInternet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)
The ICAC unit investigates crimes involving sexual exploitation of children through the use of internet and other electronic devices. The Christiansburg Police Department ICAC unit is part of the Southern Virginia ICAC Task Force; encompassing the area from Virginia Beach, crossing Central Virginia to Bedford, and spanning all the way down to Washington County. Christiansburg acts as the coordinating agency for the New River Valley portion of this SOVA ICAC Task Force.

Forensic Exams
The ICAC unit also provides computer forensic exams for the agency and the SOVA ICAC Task Force. Sergeant Townley has been trained on conducting computer forensic exams through the Secret Service and has also attended numerous other trainings throughout the country. The ICAC unit is also pleased to offer internet safety presentations for children and teenagers, as well as parents. Presentations can be tailored for most groups upon request and should be addressed to the Lieutenant of Investigations.
