Planning Commission
The Town of Christiansburg is now accepting applications for candidates for the Christiansburg Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission is an advisory body to the Town Council and makes recommendations on items such as rezoning requests, Conditional Use Permit requests, and amendments to Town Code. Planning Commission members are qualified by knowledge and experience to make decisions on questions of community growth and development, are required to be Town residents, serve four year terms, and are compensated $25.00 per regular meeting attended. Planning Commission appointments are made by Town Council and may become effective immediately.

The Town will accept cover letters, resumes, and applications until Friday, November 18, 2016 at 5 p.m. in the Planning Department, Town Hall, 100 E. Main Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073.  Applications are available in the Planning Department during normal office hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or online at www.christiansburg.org.

Overview
The Town’s Planning Commission is comprised of a minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 appointed citizens, a liaison from Town Council, and a non-voting secretary (planning director). With the exception of the council liaison and secretary, each planning commission member is appointed to a four-year term. The Planning Commission is responsible for recommending to Town Council on a wide variety of land use issues including the Town’s comprehensive plan, zoning, conditional use permits, historic districts, and general planning issues.

Once a year the Planning Commission members elect a chair and vice chair to oversee meetings and report to Council. Public hearings for land use are held jointly with Town Council on regular meeting evenings. The commission also establishes and holds its own regular workshops and site visits for consideration and review of zoning and conditional use permit requests.
