2010 Dixie Boys World Series
The Board of Directors of Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. recently awarded the bid for the 2010 Dixie Boys World Series. The bid was accepted at a Director's meeting held in Covington, Georgia.
Christiansburg, Virginia was the successful bidder for the 2010 Dixie Boys World Series. The Town of Christiansburg presented an impressive bid for the Board members in attendance at the 2008 World Series. J. Sandy Jones, Commissioner/CEO stated, "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to visit Christiansburg for our 2010 event. It has been a number of years since we last held a Dixie Boys World Series in Virginia. A representative of Dixie Boys Baseball has already visited the community and came away impressed with the facilities that are being made available by the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation. We look forward to working with Christiansburg in making this a most enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved".
Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Director, Art Price, commented, "Christiansburg Parks and Recreation is honored and proud to be selected as the host site for the 2010 Dixie Boys World Series. Our selection is the result of the dedication and hard work of Chuck Muncy, Supervisor of Outdoor Sports Facilities and Parks for our department. Chuck has the dream of making Christiansburg the youth baseball capitol of Southwest Virginia. Hosting of the 2010 Dixie Boys World Series is a major step in meeting that goal. As a lifelong baseball fan, coach, and former part-time scout for the Kansas City Royals, I share this dream with Chuck. Thank you, Dixie Boys Baseball, and Chuck Muncy, for making a dream come true".
Harkrader Sports Complex opened in 2006 and will serve as the host site for the event. The complex has three lighted fields; two of which have 300 foot dimensions and will be used for tournament play. A central tower houses a concession stand and restrooms on the main level. The upper part of the tower has an umpire room, office, and room for scorekeepers, scoreboard operators, media, and staff.
