Community Profile
Main StreetOriginally a concentration of taverns and rest stops along the Great Wilderness Road (now U.S. Route 11); the Town of Christiansburg was established in 1792 and incorporated in 1833. Since then, Christiansburg has grown to 14 square miles of the New River Valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Town is now home to approximately 21,000 residents and serves as the county seat of Montgomery County.

The Christiansburg Motto & Vision
Despite considerable development over the past several decades, Christiansburg continues to embody its motto, “Progressive small town living at its best,” by maintaining the warmth and appeal of a small community. Nine tenets developed as part of Christiansburg Town Council’s Vision 2020 help guide the town in living up to this ideal:
Christiansburg will be everyone’s hometown;
  • A retail, commerce, and tourist destination
  • A town of well-informed and effectively engaged citizens
  • A green community
  • A clean, healthy, safe place to live
  • A recreational, cultural, and entertainment mecca
  • A model for effective land use
  • A sound financial entity
  • An interconnected community

Enhancing the lives of its citizenry and visitors by providing quality services and amenities in a pleasant, welcoming environment is a top priority of the town.
