Steps to Obtaining a Building Permit:

Don't forget to call for Final Inspection when work is completed!!

1.       Site plan submitted for review (except for single-family and two-family residential units). Check with the Engineering Department to see if required.

2.       Two full sets of Building Plans, stamped and original signature, RESCHEK, shink and swell report, plan review sheet, and subcontractor list are to be submitted for approval (if required). Page 1 must have USBC, ICC Editions used, type of construction, use group, ground snow load (30 psf), wind load (90 mph), and the occupant load.  Must have Life Safety page.

3.       Go to the business office to insure that the Business License and Contractor/Trade License are both current (Homeowner taking out permit must sign affidavit).

4.       Site plan, E&S plan, and blueprints must be approved and bond posted (if required).

5.       Fill out a Building Permit Request, required paper work and include a Plot Plan with required measurements of the structure from all sides of the property lines.

6.       You will be notified upon approval.

7.       Come by the Town Hall and pay the permit fees and when approved a copy will be mailed to you which is to be posted on the job site on a 2x 2 piece of plywood with the street address in bold numbers.

8.       The following are required inspections:

  1. Temporary electrical (need AEP work order number)
  2. Setbacks (property lines marked so measurements can be taken and construction entrance in place).
  3. Footers
  4. Foundations - (drain tile & waterproofing)
  5. Under slab plumbing (air or water test on all underslab plumbing)
  6. Slab preparation (before concrete is poured)
  7. Rough-in inspection (Exterior grading must be completed and before Insulation started)

1.       Framing

2.       Electrical

3.       Plumbing (pressure test or 10’water stack)

4.       Mechanical  (air test on gas lines)

  1. Insulation (R-21 Flooring, R-18 Walls, R-38 Ceiling) or RESCHEK,COMCHECK showing code compliance
  2. Permanent electrical (need AEP work order number)
  3.  Final Inspection for Building and Site required before Certificate of Occupancy is issued or permit is finalized. No temporary Certificate of Occupancy will be issued.
  4. Special inspections, if required, ie: sprinkler tests, soil compaction, etc. All site work completed.

9.       All site work done or arrangements made to insure work is done in a specified amount of time.

10.   Certificate of Occupancy issued or finalized copy of permit sent to you.

NOTE:    Permits for water/sewer line replacement, and electrical upgrades can be paid for when         

                        Application is made provided Contractor and Trade certifications and Business Licenses are up to date.
