Licenses & Registrations
If you are a new Virginia resident, you must register in order to be able to vote in Virginia. If you moved to Christiansburg from another Virginia jurisdiction, you must transfer your voter registration to Montgomery County. You can do this at the DMV when you register your vehicle or you can go to the Montgomery County Government Center located at 755 Roanoke Street, Suite 1F. For more information, call 540-382-5741.
New Virginia residents must register their vehicles within 30 days after becoming a resident in Virginia. Immediately upon registration, a vehicle safety inspection is required; there is no grace period. In addition, an emissions inspection is required before the vehicle can be registered. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office is located at 385 Arbor Drive, Christiansburg, VA. You may title your vehicle in Virginia, register for state license plates, and apply for a Virginia driver's license at this location.
Montgomery County requires that dogs aged four (4) months or older have a current rabies vaccination and a current County animal license. Animals must wear their tags when off their property. An unaltered animal license is $5 per year. Spayed or neutered animals cost $3 per year.
