[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Town out of bags; sand still available

Christiansburg Town Hall

UPDATE: As of 9/14/18 at  9 a.m., after giving away more than 1,000 sandbags, the Town is out of bags but we still have plenty of sand. Crews will be at the Aquatic Center with sand and shovels until 4 p.m. on Friday so that Town residents and businesses can bring their own bags to fill.

Several hardware stores in the area are selling bags.

-------

The Town of Christiansburg is offering free sandbags to Town residents and Town businesses in preparation of Hurricane Florence.

Beginning today, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m., Public Works will have sand and bags in the upper rear lot of the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, 595 N. Franklin Street. The upper rear lot borders Mill Lane and Depot Street.

The sand and bags will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. Shovels will be provided, and a crew member will remain on site to help individuals fill their bags.

The giveaway will continue on Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, or while supplies last. For more information or questions, please call Christiansburg Public Works at (540) 382-1151.

And for more information on storm preparation, visit www.christiansburg.org/florence.
