The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation’s “Helping Hands” is a new and inspired program aimed at taking on monthly projects that will benefit the community and those that live in it. Some of those projects include: donating crocheted and knitted hats to local heart patients during American Heart Association Month, scarves for Veterans, shawls for nursing homes, and blankets for babies. In addition to all these wonderful projects, a coat rack was placed in the lobby of the Christiansburg Recreation Center during the winter months. During those months, a steady supply of hats and scarves were available for those in need. Judged by the Virginia Recreation and Park Society, Christiansburg Parks and Recreation received an award in the Best New Program, population under 25,000, category for the Helping Hands.
