Improvements are underway to portions of the downtown storm drainage system to reduce flooding under downtown businesses. The project is currently under construction. Funding is provided through VDOT by Revenue Sharing, which is a dollar for dollar match from the Town. The current construction cost of this project is $4.4 million, with $2.2 million funded through VDOT.
UPDATE - July 24, 2025: Main Street is now open after the completed repairs to an adjacent, privately-owned building. Main Street will remain open until further notice. The Town will maintain open communication when the Hickock Street Drainage Project remobilizes.

The closure will be at the intersection of Hickok Street and is expected to last approximately 8 weeks, dependent on weather and/or potential delays.
