Appalachian Power representatives plan to upgrade the local power grid in the town of Christiansburg and Montgomery County, Virginia.
Appalachian Power representatives plan to upgrade the local power grid in the town of Christiansburg and Montgomery County, Virginia. The Midway – South Christiansburg Transmission Line Rebuild Project involves rebuilding approximately 4 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line.

According to AEP the upgrades to the local electric transmission system benefit area customers by replacing deteriorating equipment with modern technology.

The project team has developed preliminary routes designed to minimize impacts to the community. Representatives plan to utilize existing rights-of-way where possible while reviewing areas where there are obstructions such as homes, sheds or pools and potentially shift the line in those select areas. Landowners and community members are invited to an open house to provide feedback.

Tuesday, June 4 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at

Montgomery Museum of Art and History

4 East Main St in Christiansburg

There is no formal presentation, so attendees may come and go any time during the three-hour event to talk to project representatives and view detailed maps. Attending the open house and sharing feedback on route options helps the project team to rebuild the transmission line while reducing impacts on the community.
