Said work will be performed under and in accordance with the Town of Christiansburg terms attached here to and incorporated herein by reference.
Applicants with whom agreements are signed shall at all times indemnify and save harmless the Town of Christiansburg, all Town employees, agents, and officers from responsibility, damage or liability arising from the exercise of the privileges granted under this agreement.
This agreement may be terminated by the Director of Parks and Recreation at any time the applicant does not comply with the agreement or at any time the applicant’s work effort is considered unsafe. the Town reserves the right to discontinue programs at any time. The undersigned is a representative of the owner, agent, or government official who has the legal authority to hereby give permission for the property location named in the aforesaid agreement to be involved in and designated in the Adopt-A-Christiansburg spot program as administered by the Town of Christiansburg.
2. Litter pick up will be done at the spot and along both sides of the street four times a year, more often ifnecessary.
3. Local community organizations, such as civic, social, or school groups, and businesses will be allowedto adopt spots/streets, as will individuals 18 or older. Participants must have approved applications on file with the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation.
4. Businesses that wish to sponsor groups may do so; the business name will go on the sign in blockletters. No business slogans or logos will be allowed.
5. The Town reserves the right to remove adopters or deny adoption requests by any group, individual orbusiness based on any of the following criteria:A) Safety of the participants, passing motorists, or Town employees.B) Expense above the normal Adopt-A-Spot programs expense.C) Effectiveness of the litter control by the participants.D) Harm to the public image of Adopt-A-Spot program or the Town of Christiansburg.
6. The agreement will be for 2 years with the opportunity for renewal if all requirements are fulfilled. TheTown reserves the right to nullify the agreement and remove the adopter from the program at any time.
7. The Town will supply participants with safety information, plastic trash bags, and safety vest. Thematerials will be picked up from the Parks and Recreation at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.
8. If participants cannot dispose of the filled trash bags, pickup can be scheduled with Parks andRecreation.
9. Participants are encouraged to separate and recycle appropriate materials for their benefit.
10. Signs noting the programs and participants will be installed at the beginning of adopted sections, one in each direction. The signs will include a fold-down, diamond-shaped orange sign saying, “Cleanup Crew Working”. The adopter of the road must fold the sign down to read “Cleanup Crew Working” when doing clean up to ensure safe practices that meet VDOT guidelines. Once the cleanup is complete the adopter will need to fold the sign back up into its resting location and latch back securely. When the sign is folded up, the back of it will display the adopter of the spot. These signs will be the only ones used to meet VDOT guidelines and promote the Adopt-A-Spot program along the roadsides.
11. The Town will bear the cost of producing, installing, and maintaining the signs. The participants will be responsible for opening the fold-down signs before starting the pickup and closing them after its completion.
12. An adoption can be terminated if the work of the participating group or individual interferes with traffic,is considered unsafe, is inadequate for effective litter control or is inconsistent with the Adopt-A-Spot program.
13. After each pickup, participants will be required to fill out online survey reports detailing the number of people involved, number of bags of litter picked up, hours spent, etc. It is crucial that these surveys are completed within five business days to ensure adoption requirements are being fulfilled and to measure the data of our sustainable efforts.
14. Participants will be encouraged to schedule and complete four pickups a year in January, April, July,and October to coincide with cleanup week.
15. The Director of Parks and Recreation or designee reserves the right to revise these conditions as needed.
