The Arbor Drive Sidewalk Improvement Project is expected to begin in June 2019. The project will include continuing sidewalk on Arbor Drive from the existing walkways in front of Carter Bank & Trust past Atlantic Union Bank and down Market Street.
The purpose of extending sidewalks on Arbor Drive is to connect Peppers Ferry Road with North Franklin Street. It will accommodate the increased pedestrian traffic between businesses and provide a connection to the Marketplace Shopping Center, which is currently under redevelopment.
Project Schedule and Impacts
The contractor, E.C. Pace Company, Inc., has no plans to change traffic patterns; however, potential temporary lane closures may occur but will be limited in both time and frequency. Work is expected to occur during daylight hours, Monday through Friday. The contractor will make all efforts to minimize this project’s impact on businesses.
Construction is scheduled to be complete by September 2019, depending on weather and contractor schedules.
The project is partially funded by VDOT, providing a 50 percent match up to $119,650. The total cost of construction is currently estimated at $350,354.
