Housing Repair Program
As part of the Town’s CDBG Grant funding and the communal initiative to support safe and long-lasting housing, The Town of Christiansburg is receiving applications for Home Repairs within the Town limits. Priority shall be given to those homes that are located within the target areas identified within the CDBG Consolidated Plan approved by Town Council. The budget for the total material cost on the entire project will be based on need and available funding.
Eligibility
- You must own the home in need of repair
- You must occupy the home as your primary residence, and you must be the property title holder. (Primary residency is defined as inhabitation the residence for more than 6 months of the year.)
- Homeowner(s) must either be a U.S. Citizen or a legal permanent resident of the U.S.
- You cannot own multiple real estate properties.
- You (or a member of your household) must have a need that makes the requested repairs necessary (supporting documents must be provided).
- Combined household income must be less than 80% of the Area Median Income
- Eligible properties are single family residences and manufacture homes.
- Multi-family dwellings, homes used as rental units, boats, and recreational vehicles are not eligible
- Homeowners must be current with the following:
- Mortgage loan payment (if homeowner is still making payments)
- Homeowner’s insurance coverage
- Property taxes
- HOA dues (if applicable)
Eligible Repairs

| Replace wood damaged by termites and dry rot, including sill frames, etc. | Supporting existing structural members |
| Window repair or replacement (new screen, glass, glazing) | Bathroom grab bars; installation of accessible bathroom components (bathtub, toilet, vanity, sinks, etc.) |
| Gutter replacement/repair | Caulking and foaming cracks and gaps at the doors and windows |
| Porch, deck, or wheelchair ramp construction | Ceiling repairs |
| Repair or replacement of porch, stairs, or ramp | Venting issues for kitchen and bathroom |
| Minor drainage issues | Insulating openings, attics, crawlspaces, etc. to eliminate heat loss |
| Door repairs or replacements for house | Weather-stripping at doors |
| Weather-stripping at doors | Insulating pipes and duct work; wrapping water heaters |
| Caulking and foaming cracks and gaps at the doors and windows | Where applicable, applying insulation in walls |
| Adding or replacing door seals | |
| Supporting existing structural members | |
| Other ADA accessibility exterior projects such as a new handicap ramp |
Excluded Repairs
- Foundation repairs
- Cosmetic or decorative repairs/modifications
- Construction or demolition of rooms and additions
- Remodeling improvements not related to health, safety, or accessibility needs
- Repairs on properties that are uninhabitable
- Repairs on properties with open permits
- Repairs on properties with unpermitted or illegal additions
- Repairs on properties undergoing current construction, renovation, or remodeling
- Repairs on properties that the Subrecipient deems unsafe for staff, volunteers, or contracted professionals
- Homes that are under an Unsafe violation, including uninhabitable and/or extensive damages over the program limit
