What is the Comprehensive Plan?
The Comprehensive Plan is the result of continued efforts by Town leaders and citizens to direct positive, orderly growth in the Town and surrounding urbanizing areas of Montgomery County. The Town of Christiansburg reviews its Comprehensive Plan every five years.
The Comprehensive Plan is the principal tool to guide growth and development in the community. It examines current conditions and provides direction to enhance the Town’s functions, appearance, and livability. Planning provides guidance for future development and creates a long term vision for the Town. Anticipating future needs and improvements allows the Town to budget for infrastructure improvements and guides the investment of public funds and services.
The Purpose of the Plan
The Comprehensive Plan creates a vision for the future and provides a blueprint of how to achieve this vision over the next 20-30 years. This blueprint covers elements related to the development of Christiansburg and also provides a set of goals and strategies to guide implementation of the plan. The elements include:
- Land use (including Future Land Use Map)
- Economy
- Transportation
- Housing
- Utilities and communications
- Community facilities and services
- Natural environment
