The Adopt-A-Spot program is the Town of Christiansburg's volunteer litter cleanup program, aiming to empower Christiansburg residents to give back to your community by conducting quarterly cleanups of your adopted location.
How the program works
- Complete the online application by clicking here (or print an application and drop off to the Christiansburg Recreation Center)
- Commit to maintain your spot for a minimum of two years
- Schedule your clean-up dates by emailing our project coordinator and pick up supplies (trash bags, latex gloves, and trash grabber tools provided)
- Conduct your cleanup event
- Dispose of trash bags

Recognition and appreciation
Any individual, group or organization who joins the Adopt-A-Spot program, will have a sign placed at their spot location, recognizing the dedication to keeping Christiansburg litter-free.
Safety Tips
The safety and wellbeing of Christiansburg citizens is of the utmost importance. Please review the below safety tips, each time you conduct a cleanup event.
- DO wear a safety vest so that you can be seen an identified with the clean up team.
- DO wear light or bright colored protective clothing, as well as hard-sole shoes and work gloves.
- DO work only during daylight hours and good weather.
- DO provide adult supervision for group members less than 15 years of age.
- DON’T play around or do anything that will distract other volunteers.
- DON'T use cell phones or other technology that could be distracting from situational awareness during your cleanup.
- DON’T overexert yourself.
- DON’T pick up litter on construction sites.
- DON’T use power tools such as lawn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, etc.
- DON’T pick up litter during peak traffic times, if the designated area is a street.
- DON’T pick up hazardous materials. Instead call the Town or Hazardous Waste Hotline at (1-800-552-2075)
