The Town’s MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) permit directs the Town to develop strategies and plans to address reduction of specific pollutants that can enter the Town’s storm drain system. These strategies are referred to as Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plans. The Action Plans guide the Town’s pollution run-off reduction strategy for designated pollutants of concern, like sediment and bacteria. The Town has developed three Action Plans: a Sediment Impairment Action Plan; a Bacteria Impairment Action Plan; and a PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyl) Action Plan.
As directed by the MS4 permit, prior to submitting the required TMDL Action Plans to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Town, “shall provide an opportunity for public comment for no fewer than 15 days on the proposal to meet the local TMDL action plan requirements.”
The public comment period will close on July 13, 2025. The final Action Plans will be submitted to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality by August 1, 2025.
Public comment regarding the Action Plans may be submitted by email to stormwater@christiansburg.org, in person at Town Hall Engineering Office, or mailed to Patricia Colatosti, Environmental Program Supervisor, Town of Christiansburg, 100 East Main St, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
