UPDATE:
For the next two weeks, VDOT will have a contractor working on signalized intersections in Christiansburg. The work will happen at night from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. During this time, there will be temporary lane closures and flagging operations. Below is the schedule VDOT provided us for each intersection:
- Monday, 6/17/24 – W Main St. / Depot St.
- Tuesday, 6/18/24 – Radford St. / Depot St. & N Franklin St. / Depot St.
- Wednesday, 6/19/24 - N Franklin St. / Depot St. & N Franklin St. / Wades Ln.
- Thursday, 6/20/24 – N Franklin St. / Independence Blvd.
- Monday, 6/24/24 – Main St. / Franklin St. (Town Square) & E Main St. / Roanoke St.
- Tuesday, 6/25/24 - E Main St. / Roanoke St. & Roanoke St. / First St.
- Wednesday, 6/26/24 – W Main St. / Radford Rd.
- Thursday, 6/27/24 – Roanoke St. / Depot St.

During the remainder of 2024, VDOT will be working to upgrade signals throughout the Town of Christiansburg as part of the Traffic Signal Coordination Program. These improvements will allow VDOT to better coordinate detours with the Town when there are incidences that occur on the I-81 Corridor.
Beginning June 10, a contractor will be installing junction boxes and trenching in the following locations:
- June 10-13 - W. Main St. / Radford St. and S. Franklin St. / First St.
- June 17-20 - Roanoke St. / First St. and Roanoke St. / Depot St.
These work locations will require temporary road closures. Signage will be in place to direct traffic. Motorists should proceed with caution and expect delays.
The work for this project will be intermittent throughout the year. We will continue to post updates on this project when we have more information.
