As we approach election season, please keep the following guidelines in mind to ensure that all campaign signs comply with Christiansburg Town Code:
- Signs must be placed on private property and set back at least 5 feet from public rights-of-way.
- Water meters and utility poles are generally located within the right-of-way, so signs should be placed at least 5 feet away from these
- Sidewalks and curbs are not reliable points of measurement. If you’re unsure, Town Staff are happy to assist.
- Signs must be removed within 90 days of placement.
- Residential Property: Up to 12 square feet of signage is allowed.
- Commercial/Industrial Property: Properties with more than 20 square feet of signage require a temporary sign permit.
- Permits cost $30, are valid for 90 days, and allow additional signage square footage. You can apply here.
You can find the letter sent to all State and Local Candidates regarding signs in the right-of-way here.
