April 5, 2020 Update

April 5, 2020: The YMCA at Virginia Tech connects Virginia Tech students with our local community, builds relationships, promotes health and wellness, and combats serious issues affecting our community. We build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

As a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization, some of our programs offer vital services to community members in need which is why it’s important for us to continue operating, especially in critical times like these.

Starting on Monday April 6th, 2020, the YMCA is proud to introduce “Meals on Main” in direct response to the COVID-19 crisis. The YMCA at Virginia Tech, in conjunction with Feeding Southwest Virginia and the USDA, will provide food seven days a week to ALL youth in the New River Valley. The meals and snacks will be shelf-stable, ready to eat items based upon the USDA’s nutrition guidelines.

To participate in the program:

  • Stop by the YMCA Thrift Shop, 1000 N. Main St, Blacksburg on Mondays and Fridays between 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • Ensure all children receiving food are present
  • Drive to the Grab-and-Go tables located on left side of building near donation dock
  • Pick up meals, snacks, and milk for each child (Mondays = 4 of each per child, Fridays = 3 of each per child)

Y volunteers and staff members will supervise the program from a short distance away, reducing the possibility of exposure and increasing the safety of everyone involved.

Through our Meals on Main initiative, the YMCA at Virginia Tech hopes to help relieve some of the pressure faced by families due to the current pandemic.
