July 9, 2020: An employee with the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee, who is isolating at home, does not interact with members of the public as part of their daily job duties at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.
However, out of an abundance of caution, the Christiansburg Recreation Center will be closed until Monday, July 13, to allow for more intensive cleaning. The Recreation Center – which is currently open to the public with adjusted hours and operations and by reservation only – already undergoes a 15-minute deep clean of each facility area at the end of each 45-minute reservation period, as well as two daily deep cleans of the entire facility in the middle and at the end of each day.
A drive-thru event scheduled by a third party will still occur in the parking lot of the Recreation Center on Friday evening, but the facility itself will be closed.
Patrons who had reserved time to exercise at the facility on Friday or over the weekend will be contacted about rescheduling.
The New River Health District will handle contact tracing for anyone who has been in close contact with the employee. The Town of Christiansburg will continue following the guidance provided by the New River Health District and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
